Friday, March 24th, 2016 Room 4 Newsletter Dear Families, Our spring kinders are beginning to prepare for the big move to 1st grade! To make sure your child is fully prepared your scholar needs to read, read, read and write, write, write! This is a group effort in order for your student to be ready, both the teacher and the families need to be active in students’ learning. Seeing and using words frequently is the best way to improve reading and writing skills. When writing with your child at home please keep in mind that we encourage invented spelling in our classroom. When children create their own spellings for words they do not know how to spell correctly, they’re using invented spelling. They use what they know about letters, sounds and spelling patterns to spell the word as well as they can. Predicting how words will be spelled reinforces students’ understanding of the connection between letters and sounds, and lets them experiment with the spelling patterns they are learning. Invented spelling is a step on the path to conventional spelling, not an end in itself. Please look at your handouts from back to school night for additional information. Get into a routine when reading with your child. Read storybooks aloud with your scholar to help build vocabulary and discuss the books as you read them. Ask questions that address what your student thinks of the plot, characters and motivations within the story. Also, have your child summarize the story and compare it to other stories they know. I will add some additional resources on the class website. Thanks for teaming up with me to take charge of your superstar’s education! You will make such an impact! Blessings, Ms. Sanders

Room 4 Newsletter Dear Families, What a fantastic week in kindergarten! Your superstars had a blast at the Fun Run and raised lots of money for our school. Throughout the week we have be studying all about how living things grow. We explored our school garden, read several books about gardens, wrote about the life cycle of plants, and we even had a taste test of of cabbage prepared in different ways from our special guest Mrs. Hoffman. This St. Patrick’s day our kinders had fun making St. Patrick’s day crafts and singing fun St. Patrick’s day songs. Looking ahead, on Monday the 20th is the first day of the season spring! Our kindergarteners will have “spring kindergarten boot camp” where they will train to be spring kinders. As spring kindergarteners, Ms. Sarah and I are expecting more from your scholars so we can get each student prepared for first grade. Next week we are looking forward to having each kinder plant their own seeds into their own plant pot and watch their plant grow in our classroom as they are growing into first graders. A huge thank you to all of the families who graciously donated and shared their heartprints with our class by donating to our fire resistant fund! Blessings, Ms. Sanders Friday, March 8th, 2016 Room 4 Newsletter Dear Families, Look for report cards to come home on Monday. These reports are designed to keep you informed about how your student is progressing in school so far. Ms. Sarah and I are working hard every day to meet your child’s needs by individualizing instruction; using frequent formative assessments to monitor progress and adjust our instruction; and create an engaging, rigorous program. But this is a team effort. Some ways you must also support your child’s learning include: -Checking homework and making sure the homework folder is returned to school daily. -Helping your child practice math facts to fluency. -Reading with your child often and insisting they read daily. -Insisting on good behavior at school. There are lots of fun events coming up this upcoming week! The mother and son “Take-Over at Pump It Up” in Union City from 5 to 7 on Monday the 13th and food and drinks will be provided. Wednesday the 15th from 5:30 to 7 there will be a Lenten Supper in the Community Meeting Room. On Friday the 24th from 6 to 9 is there is a father-daughter dance with an"Under the Sea" theme in the gym, food and drinks will be provided. PE Uniforms are being sold by PTG.PE uniforms may only be worn on PE days only. Students should not wear PE uniforms on days when we have mass, prayer services, or when otherwise informed by the principal/teacher. Students must wear both PE top and bottom (e.g., may not wear PE uniform top with school uniform bottom). No PE attire should be worn with regular school uniform at any time. PE uniforms are not mandatory. Thank you to the families who have already donated to our fire resistant school supplies! Our scholars will really utilize this in their everyday experiences! Blessings, Ms.Sanders Friday, March 3rd, 2016
Room 4 Newsletter Dear Families, Your scholar learned all about working together this week. In math your child studied measurement. All of the kinder friends were able to become scientists when we experimented with heat and light. Throughout the week your superstars were reminded how Jesus teaches and helps us all of the time. Of course each student by the end of the week was able to read, write, and spell each of the 6 popcorn words. Each kindergartener is now a master of long/short vowel sounds and blending/segmenting phonemes. Please continue to have your child read to you every night so they can practice reading with expression and pausing for punctuation. This Wednesday we started the season of Lent by attending Ash Wednesday. During the season of Lent we will reflect on how we can grow closer to God. It is important to pray often and do activities that remind us of the love Jesus has for us. This week we kicked off our health/wellness fundraiser, Fun Run! Your student can turn in pledges in their folders or complete it online. Each student received a fun run packet in their folder. We are still in need of fire resistant supplies Receive ONE SERVICE HOUR for each 25 DOLLARS spent please donate to our classroom. All items must have labels that say “fire resistant”. You can place your service hour sheets in their folders so we can sign off for it. Your generosity is greatly appreciated! *fire resistant area rugs *fire resistant throw pillows *fire resistant curtains *fire resistant blinds Blessings, Ms. Sanders |
