Friday, September 29th, 2017 Room 4 Newsletter Dear Families, Thanks to the slime supplies offers and donations. We had our amazing slime project today and it was so much fun! Your scholars measured the ingredients and mix different colors. Slime helped with hand and eye coordination as well as helping them develop the fine motor skills, which will help with handwriting! We will keep the slime at school this week for them to play with it then they will be able to take it home. This week in science we also had a guest speaker Mrs. Hoffman who shared lots of fun information about sunflowers and seeds. The students were able to pick the sunflower seeds from the sunflower and count them. She gave us a seed box and they were able to look at all sorts of seeds from different plants in magnifying glasses. Afterwards we did a taste test of the raw vs roasted sunflower seeds and each child was able to vote on which one they preferred. We are so excited for the fall festival our class theme is the 90’s! Students and families are welcomed to attend on Friday and Saturday play games, eat food, and join with the community. On Sunday you are also welcomed to attend the breakfast in the gym on Sunday, 10/01. It costs $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 5 and under and this is the event at which the raffle prize winner will be announced. I believe the breakfast is from 8am-11am and will be a Mexican food themed breakfast. Lastly, any student who attends the breakfast will get free dress on Monday, October 2nd. The proceeds from this event are also split between the parish and the school, so it is another great one to support! Blessing of the animals is on Wednesday, October 4th at 2:20 in the play yard. You are allowed to bring your pets to be blessed as long as they are on the leash or contained in some way. Students may go to their pets but pets may not come to class lines. Blessings, Ms. Sanders

Friday, 22nd, 2017 Room 4 Newsletter Dear Families, This week in kindergarten was awesome! The theme of the week was the rules of school. Our kinders now understand that the rules are to keep us safe! Our super scholars learned the popcorn word “like”and learned the proper way to meet the top, middle, and bottom line when writing the letters t, q, r, s, and p. Your mathematicians learned different ways to make 5. Your scientists learned about the 3 groups of living things(humans, animals, and plants). In religion we learned about how God made all of the living things and he made them all good! Next week we will be creating a fun hands on science experiment by creating our own slime. Your scholars will measure the ingredients and mix different colors to make their own creation! Slime will help with hand and eye coordination as well as helping them develop the small muscles in their fingers and hands, known as fine motor skills, as they pinch, squeeze and prod the substance, adding detail to the shape or object. (Which will help with handwriting!!!) If you would like a service hour for donating the slime supplies to our classroom please contact me ASAP. Thanks in advance The fall festival is just around the corner! This is a community building experience for families and a lot of fun. All parents are required to work 2 hours at this event to make it fantastic and family friendly. The kindergarten booth is the duck pond and we have a 90’s theme! The fall festival is September 29-30th You can use this link to register for the available slots to volunteer. http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f094fa5ab2fa0f49-sjcs2 Check the class website: www.mssanderskindergarten.weebly.com for updates. Also feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at [email protected]. Blessings, Ms.Sanders Friday, September 15th, 2017 Room 4 Newsletter Dear Families, In kindergarten this week we dove into curriculum and it was wonderful! This week’s focus was on families and how each family is special! Your scholars were introduced to the word “I” and how to use it in a full sentence and reviewed the letter M,N,F, O, and L. We also covered all of the parts of books including front cover, back cover, spine, title, title page, author, and illustrator. Your mathematicians worked on counting to 100 by 10’s and writing and representing numbers 0-5. All of Room 4 knows now how to make the sign of the cross and what it represents. Your scientists went more into depth about the season fall and what changes in the weather we will be seeing in the next few weeks. Each member of kindergarten understands that rules are made to keep us safe and manners almost always make any situation better! Make sure to ask your stellar scholar at home to share some of these facts with you! It's so much fun to see how much they absorb in just a week. If you see that your child is struggling with grasping these concepts or having a difficult time with their homework assignments please send me a note on their homework or email me ASAP. On the other hand, if your student is not being challenged enough and needs to go deeper into the topics that we are covering please also write me or email me ASAP. It is important that we cater to your student's needs early on so they can be a consistent and confident learner all year long! This week we have started our Scholastic Book Club where families can order books for their young scholar to read! It's so important to read with your child and for them to enjoy what they are reading. Each month you will receive a flyer in your student's folder and you can select books there or online that are are trusted quality and age-appropriate. When you order books for your child Scholastic matches each order you place with FREE BOOKS for our classroom to share. Please go online and use our class code - RH269 Order due date - 10/13/17 Everyone turned in their photo release paperwork so I will be uploading class photos on our class website http://mssanderskindergarten.weebly.com/. Don't forget school picture day is on Thursday the 21st. I am so excited for next week’s adventure! Have a relaxing and blessed weekend. Ms. Sanders Friday, September 8th, 2017
Room 4 Newsletter Dear Families, Thank you parents, for attending back to school night yesterday! Our sessions were brief and filled with lots of new information. If any of the information that was shared with you yesterday needs clarification please let me know so I can better communicate with you. Many parents had the opportunity to sign up for parent teacher conferences where we will talk more in depth about your student and their individual needs in October. If you need to talk with me before then, please reach out to me. I would like to share my deepest appreciation to our three extremely talented and giving room parents Carleen Gonzalez-Perez, Michelle Stewart, Catherine Barnes! Our room parents will be coordinating many of the kindergarten social events for the year, let us know if you would like to share your email address with them to access the shutterfly class website. Please remember to turn in your $40 to our class budget for classroom supplies, parties, events, and kindergarten graduation. The pumpkin patch field trip permission form and money are due September 15th and we are still in need of drivers and chaperones. Just a reminder the homework is to reinforce what was learned in class that day. If you choose to go ahead in the homework, you will be having your child go over topics we have not covered in class yet. If the homework assignments are too difficult or your child needs more of a challenge please let me know so I can accommodate them. Enjoy your weekend! Please make sure to check the class website :www.mssanderskindergarten.weebly.com regularly for any class updates. Also feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at [email protected]. Sincerely, Ms. Sanders |
