Thursday, October 25th, 2018 Room 4 Newsletter Dear Families, We had an exciting week in kindergarten and are so excited for tomorrow's pumpkin patch learning adventure. Please remember to have your scholars bring their bag lunch and booster seat tomorrow and come in their green uniform top and jeans. All chaperones and drivers can meet in room 29 at 10:25. We can't wait to learn and enjoy the pumpkin patch! We had such a great time celebrating Red Ribbon Week, we even had sheriffs visit to discuss halloween trick or treat safety and students were able to ask them questions about their exciting careers. Next Wednesday is Halloween! We will celebrate as a school with a parade at 8:00-8:30 in the gym following prayer. The kinders will also go to the school carnival on the playground and play games and socialize with their peers from 9:00am-9:20am. From 10:00am-11:45am all families members who have their fingerprints and completed their Safe Environment are invited to come to our classroom party were we will have crafts, food, and fun. Please contact our lovely room parents if you would like to help with the party. The kindergarten students have a special little song they would love for you to experience during the party. Please remember that Halloween is a noon dismissal day. Blessings, Ms. Sanders

Friday, October 19th, 2018 Room 4 Newsletter Dear Families, This week was wonderful in kindergarten! We learned about the short and long “A” and the sight word “we”. Your scholars experimented with pumpkins as we used our 5 senses and even tasted pumpkin seeds! We wrapped up chapter 3 in math which covered counting, writing, and representing the numbers 6-9. In religion we learned about the gift sharing and how Jesus wants us to share. In social studies we defined good citizens and acted out different community helpers in our dramatic play area. Next week will be a big one, red ribbon week and the pumpkin patch! Red ribbon week has traditionally been one to focus on drug awareness. At St. John however, we like to highlight and discuss the importance of overall positive habits and life choices that contribute to a healthy lifestyle. Please remember that your scholars need to bring their booster seat, a bag lunch, jeans with green uniform top. We look forward to seeing the chaperones and drivers at the school for a short meeting at 10:20 on Friday. Blessing, Ms. Sanders Friday, October 12th, 2018 Room 4 Newsletter Dear Families, It was so nice meeting with all of the parents and guardians at parent-teacher conferences! I have seen lots of wonderful progress over the first eight weeks of school with our scholars. I have faith in our students’ potential to meet and succeed in all of their goals we have set for the year! As a team, (parents, child, and teacher) we can ensure student achievement to be the very best they can be. Please make sure you are reading with your child every night and pointing out popcorn words, rhyming words, and punctuation marks. I have a tab on our class website with additional math and language arts enrichment resources, so check it out! Today I have sent home your scholar’s Star Early Literacy test results. This test measures students’ vocabulary, phonics, language, and numeracy skills, monitors achievement and growth, and tracks understanding of literacy concepts aligned to the California learning standards. This is a computer-adaptive test that continually adjust the difficulty of each child’s test by choosing each test question based on the child’s previous response. I have highlighted where your student tested which compares your child’s performance to other students who have taken the same test. I have also highlighted the suggested skills that would be challenging but not too difficult for you student to continue practicing. *If you have any additional questions please do not hesitate to ask me!* Our pumpkin patch field trip is just around the corner! Friday, October 26th! If you are planning on chaperoning please make sure you have completed your fingerprints and safe-environment. If you are planning on driving please make sure you have completed your fingerprints, safe-environment and turned in your insurance and driver's license information. Blessings, Ms. Sanders Friday, October 5th, 2018
