Dear Families,
This week in kindergarten we reviewed a lot of different kindergarten concepts that we have introduced earlier in the school year. We revisited phonics and blending sounds to create CVC words. Practiced basic math skills and patterns including simple addition and subtraction. Your scholars also prepared for 1st grade by going over key social skills like saying “I feel…” messages to express themselves to their classmates and making sure they raise their hands when they want to share aloud. As the school year comes to a close I want to ensure that your scholars are totally prepared for their adventures in 1st grade! If there are any concepts that your student is still struggling with at home please make sure to let me know if they need any additional resources so we can work as a team to make sure they are successful. Our walking field trip is next Friday May 31st! Lunch will be provided at the park but please make sure your scholar brings their snack to school for recess. Your student may bring outside toys but no toys with wheels allowed. Chaperones please meet us at the school at 10:20 for a brief meeting. We are looking forward to our trip! *We are in need of kindergarten parent volunteers at the picnic walking trip to meet us at 7:30am to bring things to the park then stay at the park to reserve our spot. Please contact me ASAP if you are able to help! Enjoy your 3 day holiday weekend! Ms.Sanders Dear Families,

Ms. Emily recently took a trip to Disneyland and Mickey Mouse brought all of the spring kindergarteners postcards to write to their favorite Disney characters! The students have already written their messages to their characters and they just need to be sent off to recieve something special in the mail. Please write your address on the postcard and place a stamp on it and send it off to get something special sent to your scholar. Graduation is just a few months away! We have already started rehearsing the songs that will be in our program. If you would like to practice I have attached the songs to this letter. The auction is just around the corner. Each class will be putting together a basket for the auction, our class’ theme is beach/summer! Students can donate an item toward the class basket theme. You may bring items under $5. So...sunglasses, sand toys, flip flops. Our class will also be auctioning off a class homemade cookie jar! Easter Blessings, Ms. Sanders Dear Kindergarten Parents, Unfortunately, after checking the weather predictions, the kindergarten and Pre-K team decided to postpone the Oakland Zoo Field trip to May 3rd. Please let me know if you can NOT drive/chaperone on Friday, May 3rd ASAP so we can rearrange car groups for our future zoo adventure. Thank you for your flexibility, Ms. Sanders Dear Kindergarten Families,

All Parent Drivers/Chaperones, please be in school grounds no later than 9:30am, for a brief parent meeting regarding the field trip and to set up car seats. We will leave school at 9:45 Sharp! We will be having LUNCH at the Oakland Zoo! Please bring a sack lunch for your child! Your child MUST wear Green Uniform Top Shirt and free dress bottoms. Things to Bring: Booster Seat Water Sack Lunch Upcoming Kindergarten Events 9:30 am Oakland Zoo Field Trip April 5th 11am K & 8th Stations of the Cross April 18th 6:30pm Spring Concert May 15th 10:30 am Level 1 picnic May 31st 10 am Kindergarten Graduation June 4th 9:30am Field Day June 6th Last day of School June 7th Friday, March 22nd, 2019 Room 4 Newsletter Dear Families, Your scholar learned all about animal colors and how animal differences can help them survive. In math your child studied counting up to 20 and beyond. All of the kinder friends were able to become scientists when we experimented with water and sunlight to create a rainbow. Throughout the week your superstars were reminded how Jesus teaches and helps us all of the time. Of course each student by the end of the week was able to read, write, and spell each of the 6 popcorn words. Each kindergartener is now a master of long/short vowel sounds and blending/segmenting phonemes. Please continue to have your child read to you every night so they can practice reading with expression and pausing for punctuation. As we continue the season of Lent we will reflect on how we can grow closer to God. It is important to pray often and do activities that remind us of the love Jesus has for us. Next week we will have our Fun Run fundraiser! Your student can turn in pledges in their folders or complete it online. Each student received a fun run packet in their folder. The fun run is from 9am-12pm and the kinders go first, parents are all invited to come and cheer on our students. Please make sure your scholar has comfortable running shoes and bottoms. Blessings, Ms. Sanders Dear Kindergarten Families, A warm St. John welcome to our newest Shamrock, Sandor, who joined our kindergarten class this week. Please make sure to make him and his family feel at home. We now have 21 students in our class! Many thanks to the families who have generously donated toys to the children’s hospital! We have been learning about giving to others in religion and this is the perfect age appropriate act of giving to other kids in need. I know all of the children in the hospital will appreciate playing with these toys. Report cards will be sent out on Monday. Along with progress reports, parent teacher conferences, and emails, there shouldn’t be any surprises about your child’s strengths and what your child still needs to do to improve. Please remember that your scholar’s success is a team effort, the teacher, parents, and student need to be invested in order for your child to master kindergarten skills. If you have any questions, concerns, or would like to schedule a meeting please email me at [email protected] Blessings, Ms. Sanders Friday, March 8h, 2019 Room 4 Newsletter Dear Families, Thank you to all who have already donated a toy for our service learning project to the Children’s hospital! If your family would like to help donate a toy to the Children’s Hospital we would be very grateful! Have your child help “pick out” the toy to give so they are involved! Due to infection control policies, all items must be brand new. Please bring in a toy or order one directly online by March the 15th! Our Oakland zoo field trip permission slip and money is due at the end of next week. Get into a routine when reading with your child. Read storybooks aloud with your scholar to help build vocabulary and discuss the books as you read them. Ask questions that address what your student thinks of the plot, characters and motivations within the story. Also, have your child summarize the story and compare it to other stories they know. Here are some kindergarten reading milestones. http://www.pbs.org/parents/education/reading-language/reading-milestones/kindergartner-language-development-milestones/kindergartner-reading/ Bessings, Ms. Sanders |
