Room 4 Newsletter Dear Families, The first weeks of our school year in kindergarten starts off very simply with a focus on social skills and behaviors needed for lifelong learning. Students are getting used to the routines of school. Starting next week we will dive into our curriculum and I will give you more details about the course work at Back to School Night. Make sure your scholar gets plenty of sleep over the long weekend to prepare for another exciting week of learning. This week, we learned how scientists know so much: they start by observing and asking questions! Students carefully observed everyday objects to spark their curiosity, then practiced asking questions like a scientist. You can encourage your child’s curiosity at home! The next time your child notices something interesting, ask them to come up with more questions about it. Static on washed clothes, dull old pennies, or a weed growing in the park – even the simplest observations can lead to profound scientific questions! Thank you parents, for reading with your young scholars everyday. Independent reading and being read to are the keys to developing a lifelong love of books. You are your child’s first teacher. When you practice with him/her at home it will help them get better and it is essential to their education! Choose books with your child online at: scholastic.com/bookclubs our class code is: RH269 Please make sure to check the class website: www.mssanderskindergarten.weebly.com regularly for any class updates. Also feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at [email protected]. Blessings, Ms. Sanders Support Your Child’s Reading Success! Dear Families, Did you know? Room 4 Newsletter Dear Families, The first full week of kindergarten is officially complete! This past week our class spent some quality time getting to know each other, learning the rules and routines of school, and building a positive community for our year together. In class we learned the value of sharing with friends, how to stay in our personal space, and different ways to express our feelings during conflict. As a class we learned all about the letter Z, reviewed shapes, and practiced how to track print while reading a book. A full day of school is a long day for young students! Not to worry, your scholars will adapt and build up their stamina. While we are adjusting to the schedule it is important that your student gets enough sleep at home to prepare for a fun filled day of kindergarten. Parents please make sure you put your child’s name in all outerwear. Uniform sweatshirts and jackets look alike and can get mixed up. There are food allergies in our classroom so please remind your scholar that there is absolutely no sharing food. I have a service hour activity for any parents who would like to take home workbooks and sort pages for me please email me. A huge thank you to the parents who volunteered to be our kindergarten room parent team. Throughout the year they will be communicating to families and coordinating class parties. We are so blessed to have them on our team! Lastly, thank you parents for sending homework folders back to school every day! That helps us keep track of the students’ homework and notes from home. Starting next week your scholar will receive homework, it will not be too challenging but it will allow students to get a routine of doing it. Also yesterday we started our behavior clip chart and class dojo so please sign in if you haven’t done so already. Here is to another wonderful week in kindergarten! Welcome to Kindergarten! Dear Families, Congratulations! You conquered the first day of kindergarten. Today, the students enjoyed exploring the classroom, meeting their new friends, and creating beautiful self portraits. Thank you to all of the parents who attended the parent information night, it was such a successful turnout. We have a very busy and exciting year in store for us! The first weeks of school we’ll spend time getting to know each other, learning the expectations and routines of kindergarten, and setting the climate for our year together. I will write a newsletter like this at the end of each week, letting you know what assignments are due, reminders and any other news. It was so exciting getting to know your scholars today, here is a little background about myself and our instructional assistant. My name is Nicole Sanders and I am so excited to be your child’s teacher this year! I am a Bay Area native and grew up in the Catholic church. I graduated from South Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education. During my time in college I earned my teaching credential while also playing division one softball. Our instructional assistant is Emily Martinez who also grew up in the Bay Area! She graduated from Chico State University and earned her degree in Child Development. Ms.Emily enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, one of whom is a student at St. John! My goals for this school year are to encourage healthy social-emotional development, growth mindset, and for students to become lifelong learners. I will do my best to make sure all students feel safe and welcomed. I will go into more detail about the school year at back to school night on September 6th. Please reach out to me with any concerns or questions. My door is always open and the best way to reach me is via email [email protected] or sending a note with your child in their folder. I hope all of our hopes and dreams come true this year! Blessings, Ms. Sanders |
