March 1st, 2019 Room 4 Newsletter Dear Families, We had so much fun at the Chabot Space and Science Center! A huge thank you to all of the parent drivers and chaperones. We learned all about our solar system, the water cycle, and the weather. As a service learning project the kindergarten class will be donating new toys to the Oakland Children’s Hospital. If your family would like to help donate a toy to the Children’s Hospital we would be very grateful! Have your child help “pick out” the toy to give so they are involved! Due to infection control policies, all items must be brand new. Please bring in these items between March 4th and March 14th to the kindergarten classroom so I can take them directly to the hospital. I will also email you an amazon list of things if you would like to donate items online and have them sent straight to the hospital. https://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/3BYIKOQS3M6VF On Monday you will be receiving a field trip packet for the Oakland Zoo. Please indicate if you would like to drive or chaperone. Your generosity is greatly appreciated! Blessings, Ms. Sanders

Room 4 Newsletter Dear Families, Our field trip is next Wednesday 02/27. Just a few reminders: Bring a booster seat, bagged lunch, water bottle, green St. John shirt, free dress bottoms, comfortable shoes. Parent drivers and chaperones we will be meeting at 8:20 am for a brief meeting. Check your student’s backpack for a popsicle stick with a “spaceman” glued to it. These handy smiling Spacemen are the perfect size to place between words so students will remember the proper spacing when writing sentences. Please practice writing and using your spaceman at home Our kinders are beginning to prepare for the big move to 1st grade! To make sure your child is fully prepared your scholar needs to read, read, read and write, write, write! This is a group effort in order for your student to be ready, both the teacher and the families need to be active in students’ learning. Seeing and using words frequently is the best way to improve reading and writing skills. When writing with your child at home please keep in mind that we encourage invented spelling in our classroom. When children create their own spellings for words they do not know how to spell correctly, they’re using invented spelling. They use what they know about letters, sounds and spelling patterns to spell the word as well as they can. Predicting how words will be spelled reinforces students’ understanding of the connection between letters and sounds, and lets them experiment with the spelling patterns they are learning. Invented spelling is a step on the path to conventional spelling, not an end in itself. Please look at your handouts from back to school night for additional information. Thanks for teaming up with Ms. Emily and I to take charge of your superstar’s education! You will make such an impact! Blessings, Ms. Sanders Friday, February 15th, 2019
Room 4 Newsletter Dear Families, What a wonderful week in kindergarten! Your super scholars had so much fun leaving their heartprints with friends in our community in honor of Valentine’s day. “A heartprint is formed when you do something kind. Your love touches others...leaving heartprints behind!” (Hallinan, P. K. Heartprints. Nashville, TN: Worthy Kids/Ideals, 2015. Print.) A huge thank you to the room moms for the very lively Valentine's party. We appreciate everyone who attended and lent a helping hand at the party. The students loved decorating their Valentine hearts and creating cute heart trees! Ms. Emily and I thank you all for the Valentine's gifts we received. The chocolates, cards, bears, and treats really made us feel special and loved. Enjoy the long weekend! Blessings, Nicole Sanders Friday, February 08, 2019
Dear Families, Yay for the 100th day! Your super scholar is 100 days smarter. I am so proud of how far they have come. This week we had a great celebration to celebrate the 100th day with lots of counting and sorting. Our lovely room moms are hosting our class Valentine’s day party this upcoming Thursday February 14th from 1:10-2:40. All families are invited to come and share in the festivities! Reach out to our room moms if you would like to bring snacks or help with party games. Please help your child to create a mailbox to use for our Valentine’s day card exchange. Get creative! Valentines are optional, but if your kinder would like to make cards for their classmates, make sure they have one for each student. If you are planning to send Valentine goodies or cards with your child, please note there are 7 boys and 13 girls in kindergarten. Please do not address “TO” specific students but rather have your student write their name in the “FROM” section. We are looking forward to a fun-filled day! Blessings, Ms. Sanders Thursday January 31st, 2019
