If any of the information that was shared with you yesterday needs clarification please let me know so I can better communicate with you. Many parents had the opportunity to sign up for parent teacher conferences where we will talk more in depth about your student and their individual needs in October. If you need to talk with me before then, please reach out to me. The pumpkin patch field trip permission form and money are due September 21st and we are still in need of drivers and chaperones. Keep reading to your child every night and let them “picture walk” through the pages with you. If you would like to purchase some age-appropriate books for your scholar to read please order on https://clubs.scholastic.com/ our class code is Just a reminder the homework is to reinforce what was learned in class that day. If you choose to go ahead in the homework, you will be having your child go over topics we have not covered in class yet. Room 4 Newsletter Dear Families, The first weeks of our school year in kindergarten starts off very simply with a focus on social skills and behaviors needed for lifelong learning. Students are getting used to the routines of school. Starting next week we will dive into our curriculum and I will give you more details about the course work at Back to School Night. Make sure your scholar gets plenty of sleep over the long weekend to prepare for another exciting week of learning. This week, we learned how scientists know so much: they start by observing and asking questions! Students carefully observed everyday objects to spark their curiosity, then practiced asking questions like a scientist. You can encourage your child’s curiosity at home! The next time your child notices something interesting, ask them to come up with more questions about it. Static on washed clothes, dull old pennies, or a weed growing in the park – even the simplest observations can lead to profound scientific questions! Thank you parents, for reading with your young scholars everyday. Independent reading and being read to are the keys to developing a lifelong love of books. You are your child’s first teacher. When you practice with him/her at home it will help them get better and it is essential to their education! Choose books with your child online at: scholastic.com/bookclubs our class code is: RH269 Please make sure to check the class website: www.mssanderskindergarten.weebly.com regularly for any class updates. Also feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at [email protected]. Blessings, Ms. Sanders Support Your Child’s Reading Success! Dear Families, Did you know? Room 4 Newsletter Dear Families, The first full week of kindergarten is officially complete! This past week our class spent some quality time getting to know each other, learning the rules and routines of school, and building a positive community for our year together. In class we learned the value of sharing with friends, how to stay in our personal space, and different ways to express our feelings during conflict. As a class we learned all about the letter Z, reviewed shapes, and practiced how to track print while reading a book. A full day of school is a long day for young students! Not to worry, your scholars will adapt and build up their stamina. While we are adjusting to the schedule it is important that your student gets enough sleep at home to prepare for a fun filled day of kindergarten. Parents please make sure you put your child’s name in all outerwear. Uniform sweatshirts and jackets look alike and can get mixed up. There are food allergies in our classroom so please remind your scholar that there is absolutely no sharing food. I have a service hour activity for any parents who would like to take home workbooks and sort pages for me please email me. A huge thank you to the parents who volunteered to be our kindergarten room parent team. Throughout the year they will be communicating to families and coordinating class parties. We are so blessed to have them on our team! Lastly, thank you parents for sending homework folders back to school every day! That helps us keep track of the students’ homework and notes from home. Starting next week your scholar will receive homework, it will not be too challenging but it will allow students to get a routine of doing it. Also yesterday we started our behavior clip chart and class dojo so please sign in if you haven’t done so already. Here is to another wonderful week in kindergarten! Blessings, Ms.Sanders Email: [email protected] Website: www.mssanderskindergarten.weebly.com Monday, August 20th, 2018
Welcome to Kindergarten! Dear Families, Congratulations! You conquered the first day of kindergarten. Today, the students enjoyed exploring the classroom, meeting their new friends, and creating beautiful self portraits. Thank you to all of the parents who attended the parent information night, it was such a successful turnout. We have a very busy and exciting year in store for us! The first weeks of school we’ll spend time getting to know each other, learning the expectations and routines of kindergarten, and setting the climate for our year together. I will write a newsletter like this at the end of each week, letting you know what assignments are due, reminders and any other news. It was so exciting getting to know your scholars today, here is a little background about myself and our instructional assistant. My name is Nicole Sanders and I am so excited to be your child’s teacher this year! I am a Bay Area native and grew up in the Catholic church. I graduated from South Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education. During my time in college I earned my teaching credential while also playing division one softball. Our instructional assistant is Emily Martinez who also grew up in the Bay Area! She graduated from Chico State University and earned her degree in Child Development. Ms.Emily enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, one of whom is a student at St. John! My goals for this school year are to encourage healthy social-emotional development, growth mindset, and for students to become lifelong learners. I will do my best to make sure all students feel safe and welcomed. I will go into more detail about the school year at back to school night on September 6th. Please reach out to me with any concerns or questions. My door is always open and the best way to reach me is via email [email protected] or sending a note with your child in their folder. I hope all of our hopes and dreams come true this year! Blessings, Ms. Sanders Dear Families,
Congratulations Kindergarteners! I have enjoyed working with your incredible children and seeing their growth over their kindergarten year. I had such a great time with this group of young scholars and see that they have truly bonded and become a shamrock family! It’s also been super working with such devoted parents and families. Whenever we needed supplies for the classroom or for projects you came through. You volunteered to drive on our field trips and made sure your kids had the supplies that help them do well in school. Thank you so much for your support. Our Room Parents, Carleen, Michelle, and Catherine were fabulous! They always stepped in when help was needed. They made sure all the parties were festive and fun, and they helped our scholars and teachers whenever we needed them. Thank you both for your time and energy. It has been an honor teaching your superstars this year. Keep reading and practicing kinder skills with your scholar to continue their love for learning over the summer! I sent a summer skills packet for your student and each student who returns it to me during the 1st week of 1st grade will get a teacher lunch party with me! We will miss Ms. Sarah next year! She has helped me and your scholars so much. We wish her all of the best in her new adventure! A warm welcome to Emily Martinez, who is a current kinder parent and will be our new kindergarten instructional assistant in the fall. We are so excited to have you! I pray everyone has a fun and safe summer! Blessings, Ms. Sanders Friday, June 1st, 2018

As a class we have made so many great memories to carry us through the summer. It’s time to celebrate! Our kindergarten graduation ceremony is on Tuesday, June 5th at 10 am. The doors will open at 9:30. Each RSVPed family will have a spot reserved at a table for the immediate family (2 adults and 1 child). Additional RSVPed guests will be seated in the bleachers/chairs. Our auction winner will have their own private table! After the ceremony, RSVPed guests are invited to join us to lunch and refreshments. Noon dismissal-No S.E.P Wednesday, June 6th is our summer birthdays party. We have several birthdays in the summer including Ms. Sanders! What is a better way to celebrate than with our kinder friends? If you would like you may bring a treat or a goody bag for our celebration for summer birthdays. We will invite families to join us at 1:30 to sing to the birthday people then the kids can play on the playground. Thursday, June 7th is a noon dismissal day and we will have fun water field day games. Please make sure your scholar wears their “K is for Kinder” t-shirt and athletic clothing that they do not mind getting wet in. Hip, hip, hooray for the last day! Friday, June 8th is the last day of school, free dress, and a noon dismissal. We will have a prayer service at church this day so please be mindful of this while picking out your child’s outfit. Blessings, Ms. Sanders Dear Families,
This week in kindergarten we reviewed a lot of different kindergarten concepts that we have introduced earlier in the school year. We revisited phonics and blending sounds to create CVC words. Practiced basic math skills and patterns including simple addition and subtraction. Your scholars also prepared for 1st grade by going over key social skills like saying “I feel…” messages to express themselves to their classmates and making sure they raise their hands when they want to share aloud. As the school year comes to a close I want to ensure that your scholars are totally prepared for their adventures in 1st grade! If there are any concepts that your student is still struggling with at home please make sure to let me know if they need any additional resources so we can work as a team to make sure they are successful. Our walking field trip is next Thursday May 31st! Lunch will be provided at the park but please make sure your scholar brings their snack to school for recess. Your student may bring outside toys but no toys with wheels allowed. Chaperones please meet us at the school at 10:25 for a brief meeting. We are looking forward to our trip! Enjoy your 3 day holiday weekend! Blessings, Ms.Sanders Friday, March 18th, 2018 Room 4 Newsletter Dear Families, Your scholars completed their early literacy test this week! We will be showing the results with you soon. Ms. Sarah and I are working hard every day to meet your child’s needs by individualizing instruction; using frequent formative assessments to monitor progress and adjust our instruction; and create an engaging, rigorous program. But this is a team effort to get your scholar ready for 1st grade. Some ways you must also support your child’s learning include: -Checking homework and making sure the homework folder is returned to school daily. -Helping your child practice math facts to fluency. -Reading with your child often and insisting they read daily. -Insisting on good behavior at school. Our walking field trip is coming up! Please make sure that you have your money and permission slip turned in. If you are chaperoning please make sure that you have all of the appropriate paperwork turned in at the office. Next Friday is Disaster Drill. Noon Dismissal of ALL students, NO SEP after school. Students only released to parents/individuals on student emergency list (parents are encouraged to update if necessary) Students only released to parent/permitted guardian who comes with an ID for formal identification purposes. Blessings, Ms. Sanders Spring Concert Photo

If your child has a birthday during the summer months and you would like to celebrate it with our class we will be having a class summer birthday party on June 6th from 1:30pm to 2:00pm. Also a shout out to Osvaldo's family for making delicious burritos to share with everyone on our adventure. We learned so much about animals and how they interact with their families. Only 6 more weeks of school ahead of us! Let’s make sure to reach all of our kindergarten learning and social goals within the next few weeks. If there is a concern with a student who needs more intervention academically or assistance behavior wise then they will receive a progress report in their folder on Thursday. This Friday and the following Monday I will be in Alabama at my sister’s graduation! Ms. Sarah will be teaching and caring for our lovely scholars.
